The NIMBYs (who oppose HS2 and changes in planning rules) have voted for the Lib Dems in the Chesham and Amersham by-election.
It’s been Conservative since 1974, and had a Tory majority of over 16,000.
The NIMBYs gave the LibDems a majority of 8028.
Also, rather remarkably, Labour lost its deposit as its vote fell from just over 7,000 to 622.
-Lib Dem: 56.7% (+30.4)
-Conservative: 35.5% (-19.9)
-Green: 3.9% (-1.6)
-Lab: 1.6% (-11.2)
The irony is the Ed Davey (leader of the LibDems has voted in favour of HS2).
The after-effects of this result will be that the Tories plans for changes in planning regulations will not happen.
