Apparently, Hancock is going to be on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

It is likely he will lose the whip for this nonsense!

The Hancock Diaries

Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock will be publishing his diaries later this year.

The book (title TBC) will be based on “contemporaneous accounts” of the pandemic, and reveal “for the first time” the critical moments in the battle against COVID.

He will be donating the royalties to NHS charities.

The Return of Common Sense Post Hancock

As per Gov.UK, today Boris will say:

"Thanks to the successful rollout of our vaccination program, we are progressing cautiously through our roadmap. Today we will set out how we can restore people’s freedoms when we reach step four.

But I must stress that the pandemic is not over and that cases will continue to rise over the coming weeks.

As we begin to learn to live with this virus, we must all continue to carefully manage the risks from COVID and exercise judgment when going about our lives.”

He will announce the end of mandatory masks and an end to social distancing.

Announcements re double jabbed being allowed to return from amber countries without having to quarantine will come later this week.

As I have noted before, the removal/resignation of Hancock has led to a remarkably positive change of mood and tone within the government. Hancock's affair, and being caught out, was the best thing that could have happened for the country!

The Mood Has Improved Post Hancock

The mood in government towards Covid, and accepting that we have to live with it, has noticeably improved since Hancock left office.

Even Professor Whitty is relatively positive:

"Best news of the day: An ever-clearer picture is emerging of the seemingly broken link between COVID case numbers, hospitalizations and deaths, as optimism increases that the vaccine rollout can safely see restrictions lift next month. The Times’ Steve Swinford and Chris Smyth report that Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty told the Cabinet yesterday that he supported the planned reopening on July 19 — which will embolden ministers given Whitty wanted a stricter approach last time round. A Cabinet source tells the paper: “The view among the scientists was that we should get as much open this summer as possible before winter, which will be much more difficult. It was very encouraging.”

Jab saving lives: The Sun has a remarkable graphic illustrating just how successful the vaccine has been at breaking the link between cases and deaths. It shows that through the pandemic, a sharp rise in cases has led to a sharp rise in deaths. But since April, when the vaccine’s protection kicked in on the most vulnerable people, that link has appeared to break — with infections rising quickly again but deaths, so far, staying low."

IRONY KLAXON - Leaks Stopped

By happenstance, since the resignation of Hancock, the leaks about the easing/non easing of restrictions etc have stopped!

Schrödinger's CCTV

Now that Hancock has fallen on his sword, and Sajid Javid has replaced him, questions remain over the cctv.

The MSM are conflicted; some state that the camera was hidden and Hancock was unaware of it, whilst others say it was a clearly visible dome cctv.

Either way a review as to how the footage leaked is now underway, and ministers would be well advised to make sure that they know where all the cameras are in their ministerial offices.

On that note, Sajid has ensured the the dome cctv in his office has not only been disconnected but taped up as well!

Riding The Greasy Shaft of Politics - Hancock Thrown Under The Bus

Whilst the media and others get themselves into a hypocritical frenzy over two consenting adults having an affair, aside from the cronyism aspect of the affair there is one other very important point that appears to have been missed.

If the photos come from a known and visible CCTV camera, then why on earth did they do it in line of sight of the camera (would a security guard really risk his/her job and leak this?)?

If this footage is from a hidden spycam, then who installed it and how is it security didn't find it?

A cynic might argue that the timing (the footage is from May 6) and nature of this story is designed to push Hancock to resign, rather than be fired for incompetence.

Handcock's Family Matters

It has been reported that Topwood Ltd, a company in which Health Secretary Matt Hancock and his sister have shares won contracts from NHS Wales.

NHS Wales gave the company, which specialises in the secure storage, shredding and scanning of documents, £300,000 of business this year.

In March this year, Mr Hancock declared in the MPs' register of interests that he had acquired more than 15% of the shares of a company called Topwood Ltd. However, the register did not mention that his sister Emily Gilruth owned a larger portion of the shares and is a director of the firm, or that Topwood has links to the NHS.

The ministerial code states that family connections are meant to be disclosed.

The BBC reports that a Department of Health source said Mr Hancock had discussed the fact he was to be gifted shares in the firm with civil servants before he accepted them.

They ruled that if any conflicts of interest were to arise, they could be handled in line with the ministerial code, the rulebook setting out the standards of conduct for ministers.

The department also said the health secretary had no active role in running Topwood, and as health secretary for England, he had no responsibility for NHS Wales.

A government spokesperson said:

"Mr Hancock has acted entirely properly in these circumstances. All declarations of interest have been made in accordance with the ministerial code. Ministers have no involvement in the awarding of these contracts, and no conflict of interest arises."

Well this is all very well, but it comes back to the issue of ministers and their dealings not just being honest and above board but also appearing to be honest and above board.

Handcock should ave realised how this must look!
