Physician Heal Thyself - Allin-Khan's Failing Eyesight #BinbagGate

Poor old Rosena Allin-Khan (Labour MP and, apparently, an A&E Doctor) has been having a bit of a rough time on twitter recently.

As I noted yesterday 23 hours after tweeting about nurses wearing bin bags and alleged cronyism wrt PPE contracts, Allin-Khan Labour MP deleted her tweet.

For why?

The photo she used of a nurse wearing bin bags was of a Spanish nurse in a Spanish hospital, where the  text header explaining that had been cropped.

Unfortunately, rather than letting the matter drop, she then doubled down and posted another tweet with picture of British nurses in what she described as "bin bags".

I have used a photo of the Tweet, rather than the link, as she may well delete this one too.

All very well, except for the fact that the nurses in the photo were not wearing bin bags, but were in fact wearing long sleeve plastic aprons (as used in hospitals) - you would have thought that the sleeves gave it away, given that bin bags don't have sleeves.

Given that Allin-Khan is an A&E Doctor, you would have thought that she would have known that?

Anyhoo, as I am sure she would not dream of deliberately lying, I can only assume that her eyesight is failing her!

I wonder if the GMC should be informed?

Scotland Has Become a Banana Republic Under Sturgeon

Allin-Khan's Problem With The Truth

Some 23 hours after tweeting about nurses wearing bin bags and alleged cronyism wrt PPE contracts, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan Labour MP deleted her tweet.

For why?

The photo she used of a nurse wearing bin bags was of a Spanish nurse in a Spanish hospital, where the  text header explaining that had been cropped.

Here is a link to the deleted tweet (sans photo).

Here are screenshots of the original tweet, and the photos she used (in its original context). Ironically, now that the truth is out, it highlights what we knew at the time; namely that there was a global shortage of PPE.

In October 2020, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards rebuked Allin-Khan for breaching the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament. As this was Allin-Khan's third breach of the rules, the matter was referred to the Parliamentary Committee on Standards.

The Roadmap To Recovery

Boris will set out the roadmap to recovery and unlocking today. Based on press reports, it is likely to be very cautious and will take place in stages, with the priority being on reopening schools and allowing outside meetings.

There will be howls of protest from various backbenchers, and those in the hospitality and travel industry about the slow rate of progress for unlocking those sectors of the economy.

However, this will be the last lockdown. Irrespective of what the future holds (even if the vaccines turn out to be ineffective against new variants), there will be no further lockdowns; we will have to get used to living, and in some cases dying, with Covid.

The last paragraph is important, even though it will be drowned out by the noise of the various groups shouting about the various timings of the roadmap, it is nonetheless the key takeaway from today's roadmap.

Sturgeon's Puerile Behaviour

 Sturgeon has three main pastimes:

- hating the English

- forgetting conversations with her ex friend and ex political colleague Alex Salmond, and

- making puerile gestures

Yesterday she indulged herself by making the very puerile gesture of removing the Union flag from all government buildings (apart from Remembrance Day), and flying the EU flag instead. Somewhat ironic, given that Scotland isn't part of the EU!

Next week the game will change, when Salmond publicly reminds her and the rest of world what they talked about.
