The Ambassador's Cables - #CableGate

Sir Kim Darroch's secret cables to the Foreign Office, giving his views of the Trump administration, have been leaked en masse to a tabloid.

The contents of the cables are perfectly acceptable, as ambassadors are meant to report their views and opinions. However, what is not acceptable is the fact that these secret communications have leaked.

The questions are as follows:

1 Who leaked them?

2 Why are they leaked now?

3 What game is being played here?

The theories:

1 Trump leaked in order to remove Durroch and replace him with Farage.

2 A supporter of Farage in the FO leaked them, for the reason above.

3 Number 10 leaked them, in order to conduct a scorched earth policy and wreck any chances of the USA helping Britain with a fast track no deal Brexit trade agreement.

4 A foreign agency leaked them, just for fun.

5 Boris or an associate leaked them, in order to pave the way for Farage to be ambassador and seal an deal with the Brexit Party.

Anyone have any other theories?

Nothing New Under The Sun

It is nothing new that politicians and their servants in Whitehall try to keep things hidden from the voters. Only today has the Foreign Office finally made public the first batch of thousands of "lost" colonial era files previously believed to have been destroyed.

The documents were secretly sent back to the UK, when former colonies became independent. However, the Foreign Office only admitted last year that it held some 8,800 files at Hanslope Park which were "migrated" to Britain from colonies at the time of independence because of their sensitivity.

The Independent reports that over 1,200 of these records were released today at the National Archives in Kew, the first of six tranches in  process due to be completed by November 2013.

I wonder what else the government and Whitehall deny that they have, yet actually exists?
