Sue Gray (Labour's female version of Dominic Cummings, and every bit as popular) took it upon herself to announce in the Times that Labour would introduce Soviets (aka Citizen Assemblies), in order to give the voters the opportunity to have a say in government policy etc.
The reality of course would be very different, such assemblies are rigged in favour of the politicians (who choose the questions that need to be addressed, and the format of the questions).
It is a lazy way of abrogating responsibility for decision making, and lays itself open to being hijacked by religious and political extremists.
Another matter raises its head here, it is more than a little unusual for a political advisor to be front and centre announcing policies. Was Gray given permission to announce this policy, or is she trying to bounce Starmer into it?
